Take 5: Create Your WorkLife Bucket List & New Year Plan!
Welcome New Year! I hope you had a wonderful holiday and are full of optimism about the coming year. Have you made your New Year Plan yet? If not, there’s no time like the present.
You can use the WorkLife New Year Planner, or a blank piece of paper and/or your regular planning calendar.
Step 1) Create A WorkLife® Bucket List
Sit quietly for a few minutes, maybe with a cup of your favorite tea, and dream big. Think about if there were no constraints of time, money and…..
what would you do, where would you go, who would you spend more time with…. etc. Write down as many things as you can think of for now…
Tip: When you’ve finished writing your list go back and write down why you chose that item. This exercise can provide insight that helps clarify our values, purpose and commitments. For example: One of my items is, to put an island with an eating bar in the kitchen. Why? to offer a better setting for spending time with family and friends. hmmm… what are some other ideas for this?
Step 2) Make A New Year Plan
Look back over your Bucket List and think about the top 3-5 items that are most important to you. To narrow down options ask yourself: if I could only do/choose … 3 – 5 items what would they be? When planning, remember to include others impacted by the plans.
Write these key items on your WorkLife New Year Planner, or in your calendar. Be sure to flush out the plans as required and note any important dates and action items to your calendar as this will increase your likelihood of Work/Life success.
